Last Sunday, Chad announced the beginnings of Refuge for RockHarbor/South County and that Mercedes McBride-Walker will lead the ministry. Here’s a little about who Mercedes is and what has led her to bring Refuge to South County.

When will Refuge start for South County? What time and day will it meet and where?
We’re hoping we can start within 4 to 6 months.  Right now the plan is that we will meet Tuesday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Finding the venue is one of the top priorities.  If anyone is interested in helping bring Refuge to South County, come to our informational meeting Tuesday, March 9th.  Email me at mmcbridewalker@gmail.com to RSVP and get directions.

Talk about what Refuge is at RockHarbor, and what will it look like in South County? Who would be part of it? And Why? And, finally, what is your vision for Refuge as you lead it?
Refuge meets at 3080 Airway every Monday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. is a time for worship, teaching and celebrating as a community.  From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. is structured for breakout groups to address specific types of brokenness by gender.  After 9 p.m. there is a time of fellowship to continue to break out of isolation. Info Meeting Tuesday, March 9, 7-9pm

We are excited to announce that we get to replicate the Refuge ministry at the South County campus, and we’re going to need your help. This will be an informational session for anyone who wants to potentially help get this ministry to South County.  We want people interested in helping us find venues, leading worship, leading a breakout group, providing child care, or praying for the ministry as a whole.

Email Mercedes at mmcbridewalker@gmail.com for more info and location.

To my Friend CC, Goodbye

Though I will be making and welcoming some new friends into my life over the next 5 weeks (nice to meet you Mr. beans and rice), I would like to take the opportunity in the following space to say farewell to a dear friend.

As of March 1, I will no longer interact or have anything to do with this friend until Easter Sunday.

This is a friend whom I have counted on to be there each night before I go to bed.  If it’s been a good day, this friend helps me celebrate.  If it’s been a tough day, my friend is there to make things better, if just for a moment.

And even as I say goodbye for these five weeks, my friend does nothing to hold me back.  He only sits and waits with a calm strength.

If only my friend had a long alien finger that would light up in red, he would reach out and touch my heart while speaking this truth to me – “I’ll be right here.”

So, goodbye my friend Caramel Cone Haagen Dazs.  Goodbye.

Until we meet again on Easter Sunday,
Chad

The Challenge

We’re calling everyone at ROCKHARBOR South County to consider what they might sacrifice until Easter on behalf of a real and felt need in the life of someone else.

Can you live off the food in your pantry?
Can you turn off your heat?
Can you ride your bike to work?
Can you turn in your cable box?

Can you only eat beans and rice for dinner for five weeks?

Here’s what we’re up to ::

  • From now through this Sunday the 28th, we want everyone to consider a sacrifice they would make in their life or the life of their family in order to give to someone or something else.
  • On March 1st we begin! From March 1st through Easter Sunday we sacrifice together for five weeks.
  • Another huge part of this happens during these five weeks. This is when we begin the process of asking God what he wants us to do with the money we’ve saved. What will it be? :: give towards a neighbor’s mortgage? Give toward a water well? Groceries for someone?

Whatever it is, don’t miss this important time to continue learning to discern God’s voice in your life…..

Lastly, please share your story here!! What is God doing? What are you giving up? What is God teaching you? Is this difficult? Easy? Let’s talk!
