Children’s Ministry Volunteers

We’re seeing the most growth on our campus in Children’s Ministries.  Please consider volunteering.  Openings in all age groups, birth – High School.

Parent Orientation

What:   If you have children here at RH, we’re calling you to a parent orientation this week. This is a night where we want to inspire, equip, and support parents in their role as primary spiritual nurturers for their kids. We’ll also explain to you the way Families ministry will come alongside and support you as you spiritually guide and care for the children in your home. This orientation is central to any family’s involvement at ROCKHARBOR…and we’re asking each one, whether they’re new to RH or been here since the beginning, to attend an orientation this week…either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

When: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, February 9, 10, or 11, 6:30pm
Where: the lab @ 3080 airway
Sign up: core.rockharbor.org

RHU foundations | gifting

What:   RHU foundations continues in February with a 3-week course on gifting. This is a place for individuals to identify their spiritual gifts and how to use them to build up others. We’ll also discuss each different gift, as well as what it means to have a consistent gifting or a one-time gift. This course is fundamental for leading at ROCKHARBOR. If you’re a leader, we’re calling you to this. If you’re not a leader, you are certainly invited as well.

When: Thursdays, February 11, 18, 25, 7pm
Where: mini lab 1 @ 3080 airway
Sign up:   www.rockharbor.org

Alpha

What:  Last weekend, we let you know about Alpha…a course we run here for those with basic questions about Jesus: what He taught, what He calls us to, and what it means to follow Him. On Tuesday, we had an introductory dinner to the course and I want to share a highlight from the night. It’s from someone in our community who brought a couple members of his family that have been completely shut-off to the Church, calling it “a commercialized institution full of hypocrites” in the past. He had this to say,

“They came to Alpha last night. I spoke with my sister today and we had the first “spiritual” conversation we’ve ever had in the 6 years we’ve known each other. Her words were, ‘that ROCKHARBOR and the message from Alpha was the first Christian church I went to where I felt they were really there to serve God.’ Those are strong words coming from her.”

There’s lots of great conversations that happen both at Alpha and out of Alpha. It’s not too late to sign up or invite your family/friends to the Winter course. It starts this Tuesday.

When:  Tuesday, February 9, 6:30 pm [course begins the following Tuesday]
Where: the box @ 345 fischer
Sign up:  www.rockharbor.org, more info on patio

Some Thoughts from Panera Bread

Here are some things I think I think while sitting at Panera Bread in Fullerton.

This weekend we’re talking about how Jesus calls us to lose our life in order to follow him.  We must deny ourselves and take up our cross (his agenda) daily.  I feel like I get this right maybe once every 5040 minutes.  Maybe.

  • I feel smarter when I’m somewhere that people are studying.
  • I have been very aware this week personally and through our community that the enemy is not pleased with what is happening through the people attending RH South County.
  • I was also reminded this week, personally, that the Holy Spirit truly is like the wind.  He comes and goes in ultimate power, but it’s so difficult to discern his coming and going sometimes.  But when he comes….dang it’s awesome.
  • Most everyone I see who wears a beanie looks fine in it except me.
  • I witnessed and experienced the beauty and freedom of vulnerability in our life group this week.  There is such, such power in sharing our lives with others…really sharing.  There was freedom in that room.
  • The Panera lady just came out with free quiche samples!
  • Steve Carter is hosting the staff at the new Fullerton campus this morning.  It is so exciting to think of a whole new crew being launched out.
  • My 2nd grade daughter had “quiche” as a spelling word and I couldn’t help her.  Really – I had no idea.

Ok folks…..on with Wednesday……….see you soon,

Top Ten Movie Moments

Ok everyone….

We’re going to be a little random in this space at times to mix it up. So today we’re going to list the top ten movie moments that come to my mind at 6:26 pm. Let’s do it…………

10)  Tombstone – all the guys walking down the street toward the OK Corral in their sweet trench coats.  Doc Holliday “shrugs” his off as he pulls up his rifle.  I think I would look solid shrugging off a trench coat.

9) Lion King – Circle of Life opening scene is tough to beat.

8)  E.T. – Flying on bikes.  It’s reported that in the 80’s, “flying on a bike” wishes when blowing out birthday candles spiked 700%.

7) Rudy – you might be thinking it’s when he sacks the quarterback at the end….but no!  It’s when he gets his acceptance letter while sitting on the bench.

6) Field of Dreams – When Shoeless Joe Jackson first comes back and talks about the feel and smell of baseball.  So awesome.   I would throw batting practice to a ghost if given the chance.

5) Say Anything – When John Cusack holds the boombox outside her bedroom window.  I wish I could hold a boombox outside of Jenn’s bedroom window.  But… that would be my bedroom window . . .too…so that’s weird.

4) Dumb and Dumber – the snowball fight.  I was on the floor of the theater the first time I saw it.

3) The Princess Bride – Anything Inigo Montoya says.  I do a money imitation when I’m driving.

2) Braveheart – All of them.  Every single frame of film.  I’m serious.  Every frame.

1) Karate Kid – The crane kick.  I will cry right now.

Ok, let me have it….but remember, these are just off the top of my head right now, so don’t get all crazy and stuff……

Third Wednesday
Third Wednesday is back this week. This is one day we set apart each month to pursue God in intentional ways together. It’s a day where we slow down from our normal ministry efforts and ask God where He is leading our community. Throughout the day, we fast and pray in our unique contexts and locations across the county. And then at 7pm, we gather in the centre to worship and seek God together.

When: Wednesday, January 20, 7pm
Where: The Centre @ 345 Ficher
More info: rockharbor.org

Sex, Love, & God
This is a 2-day event for college students and twenty-somethings that’s coming up at the end of the month. It’s two consecutive nights where we’re gathering to discuss God’s views on sex and love and to respond to Him together. We recognize this is one of the areas that the enemy tries to keep this generation from living out who God created them to be. So, through two nights of teaching, worship, ministry, deeper discussion, and community…we’re asking God to make Himself known, to provide healing where there needs to be healing, and to set us free to live lives that are set apart for Jesus and His renown.

When: Thursday, January 28 & Friday, January 29, 8pm
Where: Plummer Auditorium at Fullerton Union High School
Cost: free [but bring a couple bucks for parking]
